About this deal

This isn't the first time, and it won't be the last, that audiences at a show transferred to the West End wonder why it has arrived with such enthusiastic notices. A classic Italian comedy that remains blisteringly hilarious and relevant, over two hundred and fifty years after it was written. Updating the comedy for the reader and audience, this version is thoroughly accessible, whilst also portraying the plot's tricks and absurdities with comic flair. First performed at York Theatre Royal 26 August 2006 by Northern Broadsides, directed by Barrie Rutter.

Pantalone sees the two shake hands and takes it to mean that they have agreed to wed and sets out to tell Doctor Lombardi. His adaptation of A Servant to Two Masters was a smash hit for the RSC and the Young Vic, and continues to tour worldwide. This Student Edition of Goldoni's classic 18th century play, A Servant to Two Masters, features expert and helpful annotation, ideal for anyone studying or performing the play.

Lombardi, Silvio is planning on marrying Clarice; however, the wedding is disrupted by the rumor that, contrary to original reports, Clarice’s intended groom-to-be, Federigo Rasponi, is still alive. Carlo Goldoni’s The Servant of Two Masters is rooted in the tradition of the commedia dell’arte, a highly influential form of improvisational comedy popular in Italy between the 16th and 18th centuries. The next morning, Arthur wakes in his chambers to find a stranger wearing similar clothes to Merlin.A highlight of the evening was the hilarious rapid series of humorous tableaux commencing the second half, to the tune of a hurdy-gurdy (yes, a genuine hurdy-gurdy player onstage!

The problem arises from the fact that Federigo had originally been promised Clarice’s hand in marriage. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. Doyle assuming that the van shaking about must mean that Bodie's been distracted by the case and has "found himself a milkmaid" is a funny presage to a nice little scrap with the villains. Merlin attempts to talk his way out, but is forced to immobilise them with magic when Gwaine moves to strike him. Beatrice:**Sister of Federigo Rasponi, Beatrice comes to Venice disguised as her brother and hoping to acquire the dowry owed to Federigo by Pantalone. She heals Merlin with her magic and later uses dark magic to summon a Fomorroh, a multi-headed snake revered by the High Priestesses of the Old Religion. However there has been a "cheat" here because he is now coming down the aforementioned Brook Green in the opposite direction! Beatrice disguises herself as Federigo (her dead brother) so that he can collect dowry money from Pantaloon (also spelled Pantalone), the father of Clarice, her brother's betrothed.

Florindo asks Pantalone for permission for his servant, Truffaldino, to marry Clarice’s maid, Smeraldino. Truffaldino accepts Florindo’s offer, determining that if he is clever he can serve two masters and easily double his income. The title of the episodes comes from a comedy with the same name by Italian playwright Carlo Goldoni. His two Brecht adaptations, Mr Puntilla and his Man Matti and Mother Courage and her Children were both sell-out successes in the West End. I like my theatre to acknowledge that it is that, and is in some way artificial and accepts a relationship with the audience using asides and the like.In Camelot, Gaius again extracts the snake from Merlin's neck as Gwen enters the room, saying that Arthur is looking for him. The play tells the story of a hungry servant who, upon realizing that working for two masters could ensure him a greater supply of food, tries to do the job of two men while working desperately to conceal that fact from both employers. The whole company worked brilliantly together, especially in terms of co-ordinated action – they were clearly well coached in this respect by their Movement Director, Emma Webb.
